Packing for college is a balancing act — you need enough to be comfortable but not so much that your tiny dorm room overflows. Focus on the essentials first and add personal touches once you see your space.
Bedding Basics
Dorm mattresses are Twin XL, which is longer than a standard twin. **Don't bring regular twin sheets** — they won't fit properly. A **mattress topper** is practically mandatory since dorm mattresses are notoriously uncomfortable.
Storage & Organization
- **Under-bed storage bins** maximize otherwise wasted space
- A **shower caddy** is essential for communal bathrooms
- A **laundry basket** with handles makes laundry runs manageable

Lighting & Comfort
Your dorm will have harsh overhead lighting. A **desk lamp** with adjustable brightness makes studying and relaxing much more pleasant. Consider LED strip lights for ambient lighting too.
What NOT to Bring
- Full-size furniture — measure your space first
- Candles or anything with an open flame (most dorms ban them)
